The Youth's Role in Protecting
the Environment and Biodiversity

Application

Important Information

In the time before the forum begins it is suggested that participants continue engaging with the topic. This was to help guide your learning and to ensure that all participants were motivated and engaged by the topics. Whilst this forum is focused on creating a space for friendly conversation and networking, we do want participants to garner insight from each other’s opinions.

  • Please bring with you:

       - An electronic device (suggested – not compulsory)

       - Notes (to assist in guiding your discussion)

The Discussion:

Team members are expected to share the work amongst themselves. Those selected for this program are expected to show intelligence, patience, understanding and initiative. Team members are expected to actively participate and contribute to this group project without disrespecting each other. This is not a competitive activity: the objective is to demonstrate team work.

  • Within the discussion portion of the forum, participants are to do two things.

    1. Discuss the following questions in your teams:
Q1) What can the youth do individually to protect the environment and biodiversity?
Q2) How can the youth collaborate with national/ local government and/ or corporations to help protect the environment and biodiversity?

Roles:

In order to effectively use the time that is provided on the day of the forum it is suggested that within the group these three roles are delegated.

Secretary

       - Responsibilities: Creates a ‘minutes’ of the group discussion

       - Requirements: Fast Typer and Succinct

Moderator

       - Responsibilities: Lead group discussion, facilitate active engagement by all members

       - Requirements: Leadership and Patience

Speakers

       - Participants should discuss between themselves as to whom will be the speakers

      - This is a presentation, not a speech

      - Requirements: Well Spoken and Proficient English

*it is suggested that neither the secretary or moderator be chosen as the speakers. This will allow for them to concentrate on their own roles and allows for equal distribution of responsibility.

*these roles are merely to help guide and create an easier working environment. Not taking on a delegated role will not affect your involvement or credibility.

    2. Prepare a 1-page report in Executive Summary format with suggestions for the youth

as well as for governments and corporations based on your discussions.

Presentation:

Teh documents will be produced by the Secretary, with the assistance of other participants.

  •    Should Include:

          - Names  of all participants

          - Topic

          - Key Points Discussed

          - Any Points of Key Contentions and Disagreements

          - Suggestions/improvements for future
